Company visit: Logica

On Thursday, 10 students from the whole group were hosted for a few hours in the offices of Logica. After attending a short presentation of the company and its activities, we had a quick tour around Logica’s facilities. Afterwards, we had the chance to interact with two senior officers of the company who answered questions that concerned the research topics of the students.
Finally, we had a really interesting demonstration on latest Logica’s innovation ventures such as several mobile phone applications.

Dutch embassy

In New Delhi we also visited the Dutch embassy where India was discussed in terms of opportunities and barriers for Dutch companies to start or expand their businesses. They gave us lots of insight information that was very helpful and also some tips for our company visits. Attached is a picture of our group at the embassy.

Conference: Workshop

As part of the International Conference on Business and Digital Enterprises 2010, we arranged a workshop on Dutch-Indian collaboration in software business.

After a warm welcome and an introduction on our side, Prof. Sjaak Brinkkemper gave the opening presentation on knowledge sharing in an outsourcing environment. He afterwards answered some questions from the audience on this topic.

The second part of the workshop was filled with two student presentations. First Suzanne Haanappel presented her topic on mission critical outsourcing. She told us about the differences between mission critical outsourcing and non-mission critical outsourcing and also answered some questions from the audience.

Hristo Stefanov closed the workshop by presenting his research topic on collaboration tools portfolios, he showed us the method he created for this and answered several questions from the crowd.

We had a good time and were grateful that we were able to present our work at this conference.

Company visit: IBM

One of the most interesting company visits happened today with IBM. At first we had a short conversation with Indian students that are involved with innovative projects within IBM. Some of them gave us an insight on the projects they are working on but at the same time we gave them a short overview about the topics that we are researching during this summer school.
Additionally, after this we had an extremely interesting face to face interaction with IBM experts. Each one of us was assigned to an IBM expert with who we discussed the topic we were researching upon. That gave us the chance to get concrete and specific answers and in parallel validate some our research results.

Company visit: Philips

On Tuesday we visited Philips with eight students of our group. Philips has an innovaton campus in Bangalore where the focus is mainly on healthcare and consumer lifestyle.

During a two hour session we got a short introduction on the activities of Philips in India followed by two interviews with project managers from the healthcare and consumer lifestyle departments. They gave us much detailed information that helped us a lot in answering some of our questions.

On monday we had a company visit at Patni in Bangalore. The day was fully packed with presentations of Patni employees combined with Q&A sessions with the students. Among the topics discussed were governance models and distributed scrum in software development.

During the lunch we also had some time to chat with them on a more informal level and tell them more about the student life in the Netherlands. At the end of the day we received a nice gift to remember our visit.

After arriving in Bangalore, a group of students visited the campus of Inforsys! It was an amazing experience. We had a tour around the campus on foot and with bikes and were amazed by the working environment. It is like a small village which has been given great attention even to the slightest detail. Facilities with imposing architecture along with tropical vegetation, even tropical lizzards formed a scenery which is no doubt a lifetime experience.

On the academic side, after following a generic presentation of Infosys and its accomplishments, we were given short presentation by Infosys experts on the topics of Knowledge Management and Security.

Company visit: SAP

After arriving in Bangalore on Friday there were two visits on our schedule, SAP being one of them. After getting to know the busy traffic in Bangalore we arrived at their campus at 15.00. After a short tour over the campus there was a company presentation followed by a session of Q&A. Some of the topics covered were the use of scrum and managing dependencies between different teams. We ended the visit with a group picture.
